IPL & Laser Treatments

BTLA Med Spa offers IPL & Laser Treatments to patients in The Woodlands, Spring, Shenandoah, Conroe, Houston and surrounding areas.  IPL, or intense pulse light, is a technology similar to laser. Instead of a single wavelength of light as with a laser, IPL uses a bright light in front of which filters are placed which filter out most wavelengths except those taken up by pigment and blood vessels, depending on the filter used. The light energy penetrates just below the skin's surface, damaging either the melanin (skin pigment) or blood vessels. The body's natural skin repair mechanisms then remove the damaged tissue and produce a smoother skin appearance. It will usually take 3-6 treatments to see a significant result and treatments can be spaced out every 3-4 weeks.

Treatments offered

IPL / SR (skin rejuvenation)

Advanced skin rejuvenation is non-ablative and non-invasive, meaning skin is neither removed nor damaged.  The pulsed light targets and destroys unwanted blood vessels and pigmented discolorations without harming normal skin.  The process also restores the homogenous skin color of your youth and stimulates fiber blasts to produce collagen that replenishes what time and sun damage has taken away.  This collagen "plumping" and effect creates smoother skin and lessens fine lines.

  • wrinkle treatment
  • skin rejuvenation
  • pigmented lesion removal
  • age spot removal

Laser / VR (vascular rejuvenation)

Vascular rejuvenation is non-ablative and non-invasive, meaning skin is neither removed nor damaged.

IPL & Laser Treatment FAQ's

Are the IPL & Laser treatments painful?

While there is temporary discomfort with treatment, most patients find it very tolerable.  You can expect slight discomfort, similar to a rubber band snapping, with each pulse.  Therefore, discomfort is very brief and mostly resolves upon completion of treatment.  Tylenol is recommended post treatment if continued discomfort occurs.  You may apply ice packs, cool towels or Avène's Cicalfate to alleviate discomfort.

Do the IPL & Laser treatments burn/cause scabbing/darkening?

You may experience increased warmth during treatment, and darkened pigmentation and scabbing for a short time period after treatment.  You may notice pigmented areas will darkened during treatment, this is normal.  Over the following 2-3 days, you can expect pigmented areas to darken 2-3 times their original color.  Scabs may begin to form and will begin to flake off in the following 5-7 days after treatment.  *It is extremely important that you do not pick at scabs as this can cause hypo-pigmentation and possible scarring.

How many treatments will I need?

Most patients will require 2-4 treatments to achieve desired results, but treatment quantities vary by patient, treatment area, and desired results.  The initial set of treatments are completed ever 3-4 weeks with maintenance treatments once or twice a year.

Can I go out in the sun after IPL & Laser treatments?

We recommend that you avoid sun exposure for 2 weeks post laser treatment, and use a broad spectrum UVA/UVB SPF 30 sunscreen.  Wearing sunscreen post treatment is crucial as any sun exposure may darken or burn treated areas.
